The sentence can cut so deep yet simultaneously invoke a healing clarity in its simple truth. ~ It shouldn’t be this hard ~ The feeling of weight lifting when we speak this or read it. It’s like, ah, yes it really shouldn’t, and there’s healing in recognizing when we ourselves get in our own way and close the doors of opportunity. We already know that it’s so easy to get clouded, to complicate or distract ourselves from joy, because we find ourselves in old patterns every now and then. It’s easy to be hard on ourselves. So let’s try harder to be easy on ourselves, to soften and open. Notice when you’re feeding into the dialogues that inevitably make you feel like you can’t have what you want. Remember that there’s joy, laughter, harmony, a multitude of profoundly positive emotions and experiences that we can write into existence at any moment. With attention & intention. So let love come to you. Open and soften, release the grip, release the control of how you wish to experience love, and instead let love teach you and come to you in many forms. Set yourself free of the limits you have set for how love can be felt or expressed. When we open our minds to hold space for love in new ways, new opportunities open and multiply. FLEXIBILITY / Je pense que j’étais le professeur de yoga le plus raide de tout Paris et d’ailleurs. Je n’aurais jamais imaginé une seule seconde devenir professeur de yoga si @flore_ft_yoga ne m’avait initiée et encouragée. . Je le suis un peu moins aujourd’hui même si certaines ouvertures prennent encore du temps. Je n’ai jamais fait de danse ni de gym acrobatique mais de la course à pied, du vélo et de la natation. Ma prof de danse quand j’avais 10 ans m’avait jugée trop grande, trop raide, trop maigre pour envisager de poursuivre dans cette voie. Ses mots sont restés et la raideur, peut-être psychologique, aussi. Puis plus de 20 ans de course à pied n’ont absolument rien arrangé. . Finalement aujourd’hui cette raideur est un mal pour un bien. Elle me permet d’explorer les postures, de les travailler et ça prend plus de temps que pour d’autres. Mais tout compte fait j’aime ça, ce cheminement dans l’Asana, de comprendre la posture et ses bienfaits sur mon corps, découvrir que l’on peut s’assouplir (un muscle s’étire de 50 à 67% quand on travaille dessus) même en ayant vraiment commencé le yoga très tardivement (à 44 ans et j’en ai 48) . Le yoga n’est pas une question de souplesse et je peux vraiment en témoigner, je ne touchais pas mes pieds, mais une question de respiration et de concentration. De travail aussi car quel que soit son niveau de souplesse le cheminent dans l’asana est important. Sinon ce serait de la gymnastique. . À partir de là je pense que tout est possible et j’essaye le plus possible de m’enlever certaines barrières psychologiques. . C’était mon #moodoftheday après notre cours d’hier soir avec mes élèves où nous avons travaillé #hanumanasana contre le mur et que @mclsst m’a dit : - Tiens, ça ferait une jolie photo 😘 Photo qui m’a inspirée ces mots. I’ve had people ask me before if I think they should do yoga or mobility work even if they’re not flexible. Here’s the deal: If you’re not happy with your flexibility/mobility, you need to be doing mobility work and stretching in one way or another! . I get that it’s intimidating to take on a particular type of movement if you don’t think you’re good at it or don’t think that it’s for you. If you never start or practice, though, you’re never going to get better. .
I think one reason why people feel intimidated about yoga, stretching, or mobility work is because a lot of the resources out there feature movements that look too complicated. That’s why I made this video showing ways you can modify stretches (for the hips, specifically) to enjoy their benefits without doing too much, too soon. Remember, fitness is for everyone, no matter what you look like or what your current skill level is. . Now, without further ado, here are three hip stretches for people who aren’t very flexible (but want to improve their flexibility): .
