In 1978, a mangaka began writing for Shueisha in Weekly Shonen Jump. Though the first publication was not as much of a success, it would lead to much bigger things. In 1980, Dr. Slump was serialized and ran until 1984. It was then, that a new title would change the reception of manga worldwide, forever. Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball was a revelation, and would go on to define a decade, as well as build a loyal fanbase in every corner of the world. His stories and creativity will be missed, but what he has left behind will live in memory and print forever. Rest in peace to one of the greatest of all time, Akira Toriyama.
